Biography
Karenjit Kaur Vohra - known worldwide as Sunny Leone - represents the most successful crossover in adult entertainment history. Born May 13, 1981, in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, to Sikh Punjabi parents (her father born in Tibet and raised in Delhi, her mother from Himachal Pradesh), she grew up as a self-described tomboy playing street hockey and ice skating in Canadian winters. The family later moved to Fort Gratiot, Michigan, then Lake Forest, California when she was 13. Before entertainment, young Karen worked at a German bakery, Jiffy Lube, and a tax and retirement firm while studying to become a nurse. Her stage name emerged when Bob Guccione, Penthouse founder, suggested "Leone" to accompany her childhood nickname "Sunny."
Her March 2001 Penthouse Pet of the Month honor made her the first Indian/South Asian model in the magazine's history - a distinction that foreshadowed her barrier-breaking career. The 2003 Penthouse Pet of the Year crown followed. In 2005, she signed a three-year contract with Vivid Entertainment, initially performing only in lesbian scenes. By 2007, she agreed to boy/girl scenes exclusively with fiance Matt Erikson ("Sunny Loves Matt"). Her interactive title "Virtual Vivid Girl Sunny Leone" won the AVN Award for Best Interactive DVD - making her the first Vivid Girl to produce such content. Career
Sunny Leone's path began with a photographer's suggestion to try modeling. Her March 2001 Penthouse Pet of the Month feature made history - she became the first Indian/South Asian model in the magazine. Hustler Honey status followed (Holiday 2001), then the prestigious Penthouse Pet of the Year crown in 2003. She appeared alongside Tera Patrick and Kyla Cole in "Penthouse Pets in Paradise." In 2005, Adam and Eve appointed her as West Coast Internet Sales Representative before Vivid Entertainment signed her to a three-year exclusive contract. Her initial agreement specified lesbian scenes only. Her debut "Sunny" (December 2005) launched a trajectory that included "Virtual Vivid Girl Sunny Leone" - the first interactive title for any Vivid Girl, winning AVN Best Interactive DVD 2007.
